Our Board of Directors

Denise Kellen, Chairman of the Board, is a former bond trader on Wall Street. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Melanoma Research Alliance and is a founding member of the Women’s Enterprise Action Loan Fund, which provides loans to women entrepreneurs.

Nancy Aikens has had a long career in finance and insurance at NatWest, Prudential, and TIAA-CREF. Now at Allstate, she handles elder-related issues, such as long-term health insurance and estate planning.

Leonard Bayer has been the Chief Operating Officer of the Goodstein Development Corporation, a real estate development firm founded in 1925, for over 30 years. Prior to that, he held several positions where his expertise in marketing, finances, and technology was highly regarded throughout the industry.

Frances Brennan, LCSW, served as the Director of Social Services at the Mary Manning Walsh Home from 2005 through 2011 and previously as Director of Social Work at the Jewish Home Lifecare, Manhattan Division since 1991. She was a faculty member of the Mt. Sinai School of Community Medicine and an adjunct lecturer for the Columbia University School of Social Work.

Ann Burack-Weiss, PhD, LCSW, is a social work clinician, educator, and consultant. She has taught two generations of students at the Columbia School of Social Work and is now Adjunct Faculty in Columbia’s Program in Narrative Medicine.

Dr. Rachel (Rosansky) Chalmer, MD is a board certified Internist and Geriatrician in Bronx, NY. She is affiliated with Montefiore Medical Center as well as Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she is an Assistant Professor. 

Patricia Mulvey LCSW has worked in hospitals, nursing homes and as a Private Geriatric Care Manager. She currently has a Geriatric Care Management practice, with clients in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Westchester.

Alicia Weissmeier is the Managing Attorney of Miller & Milone, P.C. in Garden City, NY. She has previously worked as a solo practitioner focusing on estate and trust litigation, estate administration, and residential real estate transactions; as Chief Miscellaneous Clerk in the New York County Surrogate’s Court; and as Managing Partner of a general practice law firm in Manhattan.

COHME’s Founder

 

Lucy Rosengarten, ACSW, BCD, founded COHME, was its first executive manager from 1984-2002, and then continued to guide the agency as a board member. Under Lucy’s visionary leadership, COHME has been fulfilling its dual mission of providing superior care to our elderly clients and crucial support services for our health care workers for nearly thirty years.  Her many articles appeared in leading social work and nursing journals, and her book “Social Work in Geriatric Home Health Care: The Blending of Traditional Practice with Cooperative Strategies” was published by the Haworth Press in 2000. Her vision and accomplishments will continue to inspire us at COHME in the years to come.

Director Emeriti

 

Carol Kamine-Brown*, LCSW, Executive Manager oversaw COHME Inc. for over 14 years and was able to build up using the successful foundation that Lucy Rosengarten had established. Carol had extensive experience with the elderly and cognitively impaired population within the homecare as well as the hospital setting and brought a wealth of skills and caring to the agency.

Frank Rosengarten*, PhD, is a professor emeritus of Italian and comparative literature of the City University of New York. He is the author and editor of five books on 19th and 20th century Italian and French literary and political history.

Emma Shulman, LCSW, MPS. Until her retirement at age 97, Emma was the senior counselor, gerontologist, and consultant at the Aging and Dementia Research Center at the NYU School of Medicine.

David Ashenfarb, CPA, is a partner in Schall & Ashenfarb, CPA’s, LLC, and the director of the firm’s not-for-profit services and quality-review divisions. Mr. Ashenfarb is a past chairperson of the NYSCPA’s Not-for-Profit Organizations Committee. He has published articles and speaks regularly on the diverse topics affecting not-for-profit organizations.
